You are what you eat…

24 Oct

It has been crazy around here. After Bobby’s fight we went to IHOP and ate a lot of pancakes, too many probably. We went home and struggled through the next couple of days. We ate and ate…since we had the most plain food while he was cutting weight, but then we didn’t feel so good and started gaining some weight… and now Bobby is sick.

It’s kind of crazy and awesome if you think about it. Let me explain. God made our bodies to eat the foods he created for us. Instead of eating that…we decided to create our own food and make up our own things and in return we get sick, we have food related allergies, diseases, and problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Did you know that if we would all go back to eating unadulterated foods we would all live happier, healthier lives. Man created fried foods, sodas, and McDonald’s kids meals that don’t mold when left out. Yeah, true story, and gross.

Long story short…Bobby got sick because of the food he started putting in his body. He had been on a strict Paleo diet, which means eating only things you could find out in the wild without gardening or farming, and when he started eating out in restaurants again and eating a lot of dairy and grains his body felt like it was getting attacked. Tons of white blood cells started flooding his body to “attack” the food leaving his immune system weak from “fighting and attacking”. Fast forward to a few days after his fight and back to rolling (jiu-jitsu speak for practicing jiu-jitsu) and he got sick, because he rolled with a guy who had just had a cold, but was no longer feeling bad.

Does this all make sense? If not, watch Food Matters. It’s a pretty cool documentary we watched on Netflix. By the way, I do not get any compensation for talking about this documentary…I just liked it. 🙂

About Food Matters: “Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food” – Hippocrates.

‘Food Matters’ is a hard hitting, fast paced look at our current state of health. Despite the billions of dollars of funding and research into new so-called cures we continue to suffer from a raft of chronic ills and every day maladies.

Now, back to healthy, good food.

Two goals on the check list…

6 Oct

I started C25K Monday. I loved it. If you haven’t heard, Couch to 5k is a running program to get you running a 5k in 9 weeks. I downloaded these great podcasts by Robert Ullrey that keep you on track in the running/walking intervals set up by the guy who invented the program at Cool Running.

Once I’m done with C25K I will have accomplished one of my goals! I am planning on signing up for Warrior Dash to make it official! Per the website: Warrior Dash is the ultimate event for thrill-seeking athletes. This running series is held on some of the nation’s most demanding and unique terrain. Participants will conquer extreme obstacles and celebrate their feat with music, beer, warrior helmets and muddy shorts. Since I don’t drink, I guess someone else can have my free beer ticket, but the warrior helmet, shirt and medal sound pretty cool to me! The next Warrior Dash that is close by is in Austin on November 20 & 21, now all we need to do is come up for the entrance money and stay in shape until then!

Now, on another note, Bobby is starting his culinary arts classes in January! I’m so proud of him. He wants to open a restaurant with a Mexican American bakery and great sandwiches and food… but that’s something for a different post.

Hello world! 10 Goals

24 Sep

I recently decided to restart a blog. I used to have one and to be honest…it wasn’t good. Now, that was a few years and a different lifestyle ago. I am a different person. I am a wife, a leader, a … well you can read that on the About Adri page.

Now I’m writing to keep myself on track as I enter a new season in my life. I strive to follow God‘s will everyday after all…the reason we breathe is to sing of His glory.

I need a place to put all my thoughts and plans so I don’t drive my husband completely crazy with all my questions and ideas…so this is it.

“Goals are dreams with work clothes on.” -Dave Ramsey

Goal #1: Wake up by 6 am (earlier if possible) to work out (C25k) and spend more time with God before work.
I guess this is more two goals in one…

Goal #2: Run a 5k.

Goal #3: Pay off all debts…Including school loans and only use a credit card in an emergency.

Goal #4: Buy our first house.

Goal #5: Travel to different places around the world: Brazil, Australia, Italy, France, London, Beijing, Greece, Fiji, Hawaii, Alaska, Disney World and Disney Land once or twice :), Times Square, Montreal, Niagara Falls…. I could go on, but you get the picture right?

Goal #6: Open a restaurant/bakery/coffee shop/hang out that specializes in gourmet sandwiches and amazing desserts. Seriously, I would love to open a place that incorporates all of these things. I don’t know where yet, but I know my husband would love to do it too, and my mom, and my good friend Olivia. We have the work force we just need the money. 🙂

Goal #7: Adopt a Wolf hybrid. I know this might sound weird, but they are beautiful! Just look! This of course would not happen until we accomplish goal #4 so we have room and a yard! But, look at the cute little puppy, only 9 weeks old, and then an adult below.

Wolf Hybrid Adult

Goal #8: Eat natural and local foods.

Goal #9: Have a few babies. A boy and a girl, and their names will be Noah and Layla. 🙂  This is several years from now….calm down Mom, not yet. Plus, what if I change my mind about names…?

Goal #10: Live everyday as though it may be the last one and follow God’s will first above all my personal goals even if they are never accomplished.

Like it says in James 4:13-16 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil.

So, If you want me too God, I will accomplish the goals I have placed. If not, I will be happy with whatever you place in my path.

Be Blessed, Adri
